Established in 1898 in Kyoto, Kohchosai Kosuga is a multi-generational family company that specializes in fine bamboo crafts. Their skilled craftspersons use intricate hand-weaving methods to create fresh interpretations of traditional Japanese designs.
These eye catching baskets feature a round shape and distinctive looping, overlapping weave style known as shikainami which is inspired by ocean waves. To make each basket, the bamboo is first steamed a high pressure, then sun dried for over a month. After the first rough cut, the strips are carefully shaved to refine them for the final hand weaving process by the artisan.
Due to the handmade nature of this product, dimensions are approximate.
