Before high speed lifts and Aspen-style glitz, there was skiing in a more rustic and pure form. Captured by a pioneer of ski photography--Ray Atkenson--these black and white images capture the essence of the sport. Atkenson was an avid skier and mountain climber and his passion for mountain sports is evident in these photographs. Atkenson shot images at resorts throughout the West, including Squaw Valley, Sugar Bowl, Sun Valley and Oregon's own Mount Hood, which Atkenson himself climbed sixteen times.
