We’re delighted to present some special new products from Norwegian design brand Nedre Foss. Nedre Foss was introduced to us by our friends at Studio Tolvanen, and we quickly recognized that their design philosophy is very much in sync with our own. Central to their approach is the concept of the “Century Product”, that is, products that are intended to provide service for at least 100 years. Likewise, since our beginning, we have chosen products that provide a lasting value which transcends short-lived trends, serving in a small way as an antidote to “throwaway” culture.

Nedre Foss was founded by Oslo-based design studio Andersson & Voll, founded by Torbjørn Anderssen and Espen Voll in 2009. Rooted in Scandinavian design traditions but not bound by them, Nedre Foss combines utility and sculptural qualities across their range of domestic objects, some of which are designed in-house and some of which are created in collaboration with other leading designers.
Utilizing new technologies such as 3-D printing, Nedre Foss can develop new products at a more efficient pace and with greater precision than in the past. Their products are developed, prototyped, and rigorously refined until the final design is achieved. Due to the sculptural qualities of their objects, production methods typically require a high degree of complexity. The products are made wherever traditional craft techniques are maintained and where the necessary competence is found.
Like Canoe, Nedre Foss favors natural materials--products are largely composed of metal, glass, ceramic, and wood—both for their material presence and ability to age gracefully.
