The Erzgebirge or Ore Mountains are a mountain range and former mining region which for many centuries formed a natural border between Saxony in Germany and today's Czech Republic. As the ore deposits declined, former miners had to look for new ways to earn a living. Many of the inhabitants went into wood carving, producing toys and traditional Christmas decorations such as these Holiday Candle Carousels. Heat from two tealight candles (not included) rises up, causing the windmill to gently spin above the carousel, which features a charming woodland motif. Made in a workshop on the outskirts of Dresden, each piece is hand carved and carefully assembled by hand.
