Their design transformation occurred in 1965, when Braniff enlisted leading graphic designer Alexander Girard to creatively address the full airline experience. Girard employed vibrant colors, lush fabrics, and crisp midcentury modern design to nearly all aspects of the Braniff travel journey, from brand identity to ticketing offices to airline livery to furniture, interiors and staff uniforms. Aided by an ambitious advertising campaign—“The End of the Plain Plane”—Braniff emerged as the leading tastemaker for international travel.
