Hotaru Pendant Lanterns

$545.00

British designers Barber & Osgerby created this new range of lighting which draws on the heritage of Japanese lantern-making. The Hotaru range represents the perfect unison of traditional craft and a modern yet timeless aesthetic. Named after the Japanese word for ‘firefly’, the collection is manufactured by Ozeki & Co., a celebrated Japanese company dedicated to making paper lanterns since 1891. Ozeki have previously collaborated with numerous designers and artists, including working with Isamu Noguchi on the production of his iconic Akari light sculptures.

The Hotaru range is constructed entirely by hand using traditional techniques and materials, with translucent Mulberry bark washi paper stretched over a bamboo form. Each lantern comes with a UL-listed 6’ black cloth cord and satin-matte black, powder-coated steel ceiling mount (4.75" Ø x 1" H).  Accommodates standard E27 type bulbs. Display them singly for a simple statement or hang them in mixed groups for a striking effect.
