Jikatabi is a type of traditional rubber-soled worker’s footwear worn in Japan. The design is more reflective of the anatomical structure of the human foot rather than stylistic concerns, yet through this approach they achieve their own highly distinctive aesthetic. Tokujiro Ishibashi, the brother of the founder of the Bridgestone Tire Corporation, is widely credited with their invention. These high-quality versions are made by the Moonstar Company, who has been producing rubber soled shoes in Kurume, Japan, since 1873. Canvas uppers, traditional tab and loop closure. Best worn barefoot or with jikatabi-style socks (widely available online).
