Plank Benches

This small-scale bench is handcrafted in a workshop in Nagoya, Japan using traditional woodworking techniques for the brand Cassette. Consisting of an Oregon pine seat with either oiled white oak or walnut legs, the bench has visible joinery and subtle, interesting details that lend it a special presence. The bench utilizes traditional Japanese architectural building techniques and joinery for a piece constructed without nails, screws, or other hardware. The structure of the leg and seat joint is not only pleasing to the eye but is designed to absorb and distribute the weight to bring strength and stability.

Defined by simplicity and purity, the Plank Bench is constructed from solid wood—small cosmetic cracks and splits are characteristic of natural wood and add to the beauty of each piece.
