Skylab: The Nature of Buildings is the first monograph dedicated to the Portland-based architecture and design studio founded by Jeff Kovel in 1999. Known for its forward-thinking approach to sustainable design, Skylab has produced a wide range of notable projects—from private residences to cultural landmarks like the N M Bodecker Foundation, Nike’s Serena Williams Building, and the Columbia Building.

Spanning over two decades of work, the book features essays, interviews, and project photography that explore the studio’s design philosophy and creative process. Conceived as a double vinyl album, its unique format includes four “sides,” ten project “tracks,” gatefold covers, and nine foldout posters, offering readers a visually immersive experience of Skylab’s architectural vision.
